Juan is an agricultural economist passionate about sustainable development through helping companies and vulnerable families increase their well-being by developing market opportunities. HARVEC assists companies in product readiness for export and building an import and distribution logistics to optimize resources, while supporting farmers improve the implementation of sustainable practices.
He was Director of Research and Senior Analyst for GIC Group, an agribusiness consulting firm in Bethesda, Maryland. At GIC, Juan was lead team member for conducting evaluations of export promotion programs of the United Soybean Board and the U.S. Grains Council, as well as a directed market research for export opportunities of agricultural products. He had leading positions in Ecuador's USAID projects, including the Initiative for the Conservation of the Andean Amazon (IICA) and ACDI-VOCA Prodel, and also provided advice in several agribusiness projects. While in Ecuador, Juan volunteered for social projects with NGO's, including Junior Chamber International.
In Ecuador, Juan had experience in development cacao projects with small - scale farmers for the implementation of sustainable practices, as well as conducting volunteer research with indigenous communities in the highlands of Ecuador for developing associative feasibility projects.
